Squad Level Communications - Abstract
The most important lesson to learn from any form of communication is that the more people you have communicating, the more effective you become. Having technology that allows you to communicate beyond typical conversational range amplifies your communication and effectiveness in the field.
As we can see, Before 2003, The USMC did not take advantage of radio communications technology to connect Marines in each Company. At this time, only platoon leaders were able to communicate between each other and the Company HQ. This is not good as there is a massive communication gap between the individual Marines within each platoon and their leaders. How can a leader lead if they can't communicate?
With the invasion of Iraq in 2003 came a significant leap forward in USMC doctrine. As radio technology developed, so did the adoption of said technology in the Marine Corps. Now, every Marine is connected within their platoon and even between platoons.Â
